AFI’s Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes captures the band’s raw, hardcore-influenced sound during their Nitro Records era. Released November 11, 1997, this third studio album marks a lineup shift with Hunter Burgan on bass and Jade Puget contributing backing vocals. The 14track set, recorded at Art of Ears in Hayward, California and produced by AFI, includes early tracks such as Keeping Out of Direct Sunlight and Three Reasons that showcase the band’s evolving energy. This release stands as a key early milestone in AFI’s development as they built toward the more expansive sound of their late1990s work.
