Bob Boilen, NPR(All Songs Considereds The 50 Most Important Recordings Of The Decade) Consistently, remarkably strong. Pitchfork (9.0, Best New Music) a nearly perfect album Billboard Brilliantly OTT but cleverly understated, this is an album to dance around to and to cherish. The Guardian (****) Alec Ounsworth wrote some of the most uplifting, celebratory tracks of this millennium, on an album of consistent excellence, and one rightly lauded for re-writing the rules of what it means to be an independent artist. A heady blend of left-field pop and melodic, exuberant indie rock, the record repurposed a number of classic new wave references for a new generation of music fans. The records raw, ramshackle sound has been an integral part of its appeal; time has merely magnified that charm. Every time it seems like conventional indie rock has gasped its last, someone builds a mansion of song that reminds us that, at its best, the genre still pulls off raw, celebratory spirit more convincingly than almost any other. Consistently, remarkably strong.
